Frank Temu

Frank comes from mainland Tanzania. Before kitesurfing he worked as a porter on Kilimanjaro. He has now been teaching kitesurfing for about five years and is IKO certified, which is the International Kiteboarding Organization's standard for instructors.

He teaches all three levels and knows how wind and tide behave at Paje. Frank teaches in English, Swahili and a little French. He has also taught many students who did not share a language with him, so language is no limit to learning. In his free time he likes to teach kitesurfing to children from the village in Paje.

Frank is also a passionate photographer. During lessons he films videos of your riding so he can give you clear feedback.

What students say

Frank made my stay in Paje a dream! Kite surfing with him was a fantastic experience. I took classes with 3 weeks in a row because I loved his teaching methods so much.

Highly recommend kitesurfing lessons with Frank! Having had lessons from different schools and instructors previously, I can say Frank offers great value for money. He teaches with a lot of enthusiasm, enables you to advance quickly, and become an independent kiter.

Wind & spot

When to come to Paje

Paje sits on the east coast of Unguja, in front of a wide lagoon. Two wind seasons bring kitesurfers back every year, and the tide decides when the water is best for your lesson.

Kusi season (south-east wind) Kaskazi season (north-east wind) Less reliable wind, but you can still kite

In the months between the two seasons there is wind too, and you can still go kitesurfing, but it is less reliable. This is the typical pattern. Wind and weather change from year to year, so ask us about current conditions before you book your trip.

Tides set the schedule

The lagoon changes with the tide. At low tide the water is shallow and flat, at high tide there is more depth and room to ride. We plan your lesson time around wind and tide, and tell you the best slot when you book.
